Hon. Balasaheb Bhausaheb Thorat is a very popular leader associated with the Indian National Congress Party. He was born on February 7th, 1953, in Jorve, Sangamner, Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, India. He completed his education at Sir D. M. Petit High School, Sangamner College, Sangamner, a BA from Ferguson College, Pune, and an LLB from ILS Law College, Pune. His initial career started as a farmer, then as a lawyer. He also became a leading face in the co-operative movement in Maharashtra. He is the founder of Milk Cooperative, Chairman of Sangamner Sugar Factory, and President of Amrutvahini Sheti and Shikshan Vikas Sanstha, Sangamner.

He has been elected as a Member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly eight times since 1985 from the Sangamner constituency. He has served as cabinet minister of revenue, minister of agriculture, school education, animal husbandry, dairy development, fisheries, food and civil supplies, soil and water conservation, Marathi language, protocol, information technology, and command area development. He works with the chief minister of Maharashtra, Shri. Vilasrao Deshmukh, Shri. Sushilkumar Shinde, Shri. Vilasrao Deshmukh, Shri. Ashok Chavan, Shri. Prithviraj Chavan, and Shri. Uddhav Thackeray, and the Leader of the Congress Legislature Party, the Maharashtra Legislature. He has served as the guardian minister of Dhule, Ahmednagar, Buldhana, Kolhapur, Latur, and Nagpur.

He has visited Switzerland, Denmark, Japan, and many other countries in Europe to study agriculture, water management, and education systems. His noble social commitment was to successfully complete his dream project, Nilawande Dam, through his devoted work. Dandakaranya Abhiyan, Blood Donation Camps, Medical Camps, Women Empowerment, Famers Rally and all other social initiatives are being undertaken by him for the benefit of society. He dedicated himself to society by working tirelessly day and night during the Corona period. He has been honored with many prestigious awards; Yeshwant-Venu Award, Most Efficient KLA Award, Advocate Raosaheb Shinde Memorial Award, Patriot Kisanveer Gratitude Award, Best MLA Award and Madhavrao Gaikwad Lifetime Achievement Award.

Hon. Balasaheb Thorat is the President of Amrutvahini Sheti and Shikshan Vikas Sanstha, Sangamner, Dist. Ahmednagar, Maharashtra state, was established in 1983 by a great visionary and leader of the cooperative movement Late Shri. Bhausaheb Santuji Thorat. Shri Balasaheb Thorat took over as President for translating the vision of Shri Bhausaheb Thorat into dreams through the virtue of hard work, honesty, and dedication to achieve excellence in the field of education through his dynamic leadership. Sanstha is now providing quality education from KG to Ph.D in rural community. Sanstha is excelling at providing high-quality education in the fields of engineering, pharmacy, MBA, agriculture, polytechnic, ITI, junior college, model school, NIDO International school, and international school.

The President, basically hailing from a farmer's family, was keen to open an agriculture college, and "Sahakarmarshi Bhausaheb Thorat College of Agriculture" was established in 2023. Thus, Amrutvahini Sheti and Shikshan Vikas Sanstha is playing a vital role in rural development by imparting quality education to the rural community, fulfilling the dreams of the late Shri. Bhausaheb Thorat, which he had dreamt long ago.
